Instant Pot Sausage, Green Beans, and Potatoes is a one pot meal that comes together in no time! Only requiring a 3 minute cook time, this is the perfect dinner for busy schedules!

This recipe for Instant Pot sausage, green beans and potatoes is a quick one pot meal that's ready in just a few minutes

Oh how I love one pot meals! Don’t you?? Not only is dinner ready in one step, but clean up is a breeze! Especially ones made in the Instant Pot!

I have now made this meal several times over the last few months, but somehow forgot to blog it! After you see how easy it is below, I am sure you too will be adding it to your meal plan!

A few months back (when I first made this) it was good, but not great. I had added way too much Cajun seasoning to the point our mouths were just about on fire! Then, we had potato overload and it might as well have been considered potatoes with a sausage and green bean here and there, haha! I tweaked it a bit the next time and from there….perfection! Even my kids (2/3 are picky eaters) love this!

Not only is it a one pot meal, but we typically have enough leftovers for dinner or at least lunch the next day! Double win, right?!

A Quick One-Pot Dinner with a Kick of Heat

As for seasoning, I LOVE Chupacabra Cajun blend because it isn’t too spicy and is so flavorful! However, we also use and love Slap ya Mama Cajun seasoning as it brings the heat when we’re in the mood! If you’re simply not a Cajun fan, that’s okay! You can use your preferred seasoning to change this to your desires!

For the sausage, I typically use a jalapeno cheddar smoked sausage. However, again, if you prefer a mild andouille sausage, go for it! The choice is yours!

With summer here, this is a great meal that keeps the heat out of the kitchen and leaves plenty of time to play, relax, and have family time!

Do you get as much flavor in the IP as in a crock pot?

Does the sausage need to be pre-cooked?

Judy…I don’t even use my crockpot anymore. The food taste exactly the same and cuts cooking time down tremendously. I use my Instant Pot often. I can say that I did a pulled pork in my instant pot and it tasted better than the crockpot version

Honestly, I was skeptical at first, but my husband and I agreed, we think we get more flavor from the IP than the crockpot!!

I use the store packaged smoked sausage, so typically it comes precooked. If its not already, yes, precook! Enjoy!

Agreed!! I don’t know what I ever did without my Instant Pot, haha!!

Could I substitute in precooked chicken sausages and sweet potatoes?

Silly question but how do you pre cook the sausage?

The sausage I buy typically already comes pre-cooked. Its andouille sausage! Hope that helps clarify!!

Hi 🙂 love this recipe. Can I double it?

    12. Kristin

      September 25, 2019 at 8:00 am

Absolutely! Just make sure you have at least a 6qt Instant Pot, not 3 quart! Enjoy!

I made this for my husband tonight. We loved it!!! Instead of the Cajun seasoning we did a garlic and herb. Thank you for such an easy and delicious recipe.

Yea! Glad to hear it was a hit! I love changing the seasoning up for a variety of flavor! Garlic and Herb sounds tasty!!

This is delicious and versatile. I had buffalo style chicken sausage and used lemon pepper seasoning. Delish.

I used 12 oz cheddar and bacon brats that were not pre-cooked. Increased high-pressure time to 4 minutes and sausage, potatoes, and green beans were cooked just fine. Tasty!

Oh yum! Great change on the bacon brats, yum! So glad it was a hit!

If you double the recipe, do you have to cook it longer?

Nope, cook time stays the same! Enjoy!!

I have heard of people using broccoli, Brussel sprouts, and even cauliflower in lieu of the green beans!

My family doesn’t like anything remotely spicy. What would you recommend for seasonings?

    26. Kristin

My kids are the same way! I use this seasoning, https://amzn.to/2V1ID4C and it adds so much flavor, but no heat!

I used browned hot Italian sausage, varied the spices using a carribean rub and a spicy Mrs dash, and I reduced the butter. I used a cup of broth because I thought ip needed that. Red potatoes were fine.

Wow. Husb said I gave him too much, but he finished it. 😍

Making this tonight and bought a bag of “1-bite” potatoes. I’m thinking I don’t need to cut them… agree?

    32. Kristin

      July 1, 2020 at 7:49 pm

If they are small, you should be fine not cutting them! Worse case, simply slice in half….keeping skin on! Enjoy!

It’s excellent! I add onions and double it. I use Mrs. Dash and red pepper flakes.

Can I substitute chicken broth for water? They were out of the broth at the store 😑

    36. Kristin

      August 5, 2020 at 9:20 am

Absolutely! You can add a bouillon cube to increase the flavor if using water, or just add a bit more seasoning to increase flavor! Works great!

We loved this meal! And I’ve got some picky eaters! My only problem was that there weren’t any leftovers. This may be a stupid question, but if I double this do I double the broth, too? I’m making it in the Instant Pot, if that helps.

    38. Kristin

      September 16, 2020 at 7:27 am

Yay! Glad you enjoyed this!! If doubling the meal, double all ingredients (broth includes), but keep cook times the same! Enjoy!

I make this recipe about once a week now. I love it.

I tried to change it up the last time I made it, using fewer green beans, and I threw in an onion and a zucchini. The whole think wound up being extremely mushy. Nice try, I guess.

Has anyone tried this with carrots instead of green beans?

    40. Kristin

      October 22, 2020 at 11:24 am

Oh yes, unfortunately zucchini would get too mushy! I have heard lots of people using corn on the cob chunks and baby carrots in this. Everyone said it works great!

New to IP – how would I adapt this for frozen Italian sausage?

    42. Kristin

      October 27, 2020 at 10:17 am

I recommend using the saute function first and cooking the sausage. Then, turn saute off and follow directions for the rest of recipe 🙂
      Enjoy!

      October 31, 2020 at 10:45 am

My wife does not like any kind of sausage. Could I substitute another meat, like diced chicken breast or beef stew meat pieces? If I left the meat out altogether what would the impact be?

    44. Kristin

      November 1, 2020 at 12:23 pm

You can use chicken, ham, bacon, and more in this! My only suggestion is to pre-cook the meat at least mostly due to the short cook time in the IP! Enjoy!!

Can this be made in the 3-quart instant pot?

      Absolutely! That works great too!!
