Mini garlic monkey bread baked and served on a wood serving board with dipping sauce.

My family loves having a warm, buttery bread with dinner, but I like to switch things up from the usual rolls and breadsticks. This garlic monkey bread quickly became a favorite.

Each mini garlic monkey bread is baked in a muffin cup for soft, pull-apart bites packed with flavor. Using biscuit dough makes this garlic monkey bread with biscuits quick and easy, but you can also use my flaky buttermilk biscuits for a homemade option.

If you're looking for a classic side, my buttery bread machine rolls or bread machine breadsticks are great alternatives too.

    What is Garlic Monkey Bread?

Garlic monkey bread is a savory version of classic monkey bread, made with soft dough pieces coated in garlic butter and cheese, then baked into a pull-apart bread.

This mini version uses biscuit dough to create garlic bread bites that are easy to serve and perfect for any meal.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Made with simple ingredients and easy biscuit dough
    • Buttery, cheesy garlic flavor in every bite
    • Bakes up golden brown with soft, fluffy centers
    • Perfect as mini garlic bread bites for dinner, snacks, or appetizers
    • Quick and easy, ready in under 30 minutes

    Ingredient Notes

This garlic monkey bread with biscuits uses simple ingredients you likely already have on hand. See the printable recipe card below for exact amounts and directions.

All the ingredients needed to make garlic monkey bread.
    • Butter: Creates a rich garlic butter coating that gives this garlic monkey bread its signature flavor
    • Biscuits: Refrigerated biscuit dough keeps this garlic monkey bread recipe quick and easy, but homemade dough, like my Flaky Buttermilk Biscuits, can also be used if you prefer making it from scratch.
    • Garlic: Fresh minced garlic adds the best bold garlic flavor. You can also use garlic powder if you don't have fresh garlic on hand.
    • Parmesan Cheese: Adds that classic cheesy garlic finish
    • Fresh Parsley: Adds color and a touch of fresh flavor

    Variations

This garlic monkey bread recipe is easy to customize depending on your flavor preferences.

    • Add mozzarella for extra cheesy garlic monkey bread or use extra Parmesan for a stronger garlic Parmesan flavor.
    • Use garlic Parmesan seasoning for a stronger garlic flavor
    • Add red pepper flakes for a little heat
    • Swap in homemade dough for a more traditional monkey bread recipe
    • Use biscuit dough or roll dough depending on what you have on hand

How To Make Garlic Monkey Bread

Biscuit dough being quartered using a pair of scissors.

Step 1. Cut each biscuit dough piece into quarters and set aside.

Melted butter, parsley, and garlic combined in a small bowl.

Step 2. Combine the melted butter, minced garlic, and parsley in a bowl.

Quartered biscuit pieces in a plastic bag and coated with the melted butter mixture.

Step 3. Place the biscuit pieces in a large zip-top bag. Pour in the garlic butter mixture and Parmesan cheese, then seal the bag and shake until all the pieces are evenly coated in the garlicky butter mixture.

Coated biscuit pieces placed into a prepared muffin tray and ready for the oven.

Step 4. Grease or line a muffin pan, then place about 4 pieces of dough into each cup. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese. Bake at 400°F for 14-15 minutes, or until golden brown and the garlic butter is bubbling.

    Tips for Success

    • Bake until golden brown and serve warm for best texture
    • Coat dough evenly in garlic butter for full flavor
    • Use fresh minced garlic for the best flavor
    • Don't overcrowd muffin cups; sprinkle extra Parmesan on top
    • Drizzle any extra garlic butter over the tops before serving for even more flavor.

    Serving Suggestions

This recipe is perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or quick snack. We love serving it with marinara sauce for dipping, just like my Pull Apart Pizza Bread. These mini garlic bread bites are also great served with ranch or garlic butter dipping sauce.

It also pairs well with comforting meals like Melt In Your Mouth Chicken, Ultimate Chicken Casserole, or Creamy Baked Ziti.

    Storage & Reheating

    • Store leftovers in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
    • Reheat in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or in the oven at 325°F until warmed through
    • For best results, reheat in the oven to keep the edges slightly crisp

Kristin, is the yield correct as shown? (“serves 16”) The recipe says to put 6 or 7 pieces into each cup, but there won’t be enough pieces available if you’re making 16 muffins – you’d only be able to put 4 into each, unless I’m missing something. These sound so delicious! Have you ever made them using a Bundt pan (like one used in dessert monkey bread recipes?) I’m tempted to try a batch as I think they’d make a fun presentation.

Whoops, good catch! I actually just updated the original recipe and must have missed correcting that! You are correct about only putting 4 pieces in each cup. I love the idea of making this as a bundt just like monkey bread! Here is another version, using a pie plate! It is another family fav, https://thecookinchicks.com/garlic-pull-apart-bread/

If I freeze, how should they be reheated?

I would thaw, and then either reheat in the microwave for about 30-45 seconds (or until warm), or wrap them in tin foil and put them in the oven at 325 for about 5-10 minutes!!

      # 8 says to sprinkle additional parm cheese on top. Where did the rest go? Does it go in the butter/garlic mixture? If so, how much?
