Ingredient Notes
Below is a brief overview of each ingredient needed. To see printable recipe card with exact amounts and directions, scroll to the bottom of this post, or click the “jump to recipe” button at the top.

- Garlic Bread: I typically use frozen garlic bread or Texas Toast because it crisps up perfectly in the oven. Frozen garlic toast also works well, or use my Homemade Garlic Bread recipe if you prefer to make your own.
- Pizza Sauce: Use your favorite pizza sauce, or substitute marinara sauce if that’s what you have available. You can also switch things up with Alfredo sauce or pesto for a fun flavor variation.
- Mozzarella Cheese: Freshly shredded mozzarella melts best, but pre-shredded works too. Sprinkle on a little Parmesan or Provolone for extra flavor.
- Favorite Pizza Toppings: Keep it simple with pepperoni slices, or make each pizza your own with cooked sausage, bacon, chicken, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, olives, tomatoes, pineapple, or fresh basil.
Which Bread Works Best?
There are so many great options, and you really can’t go wrong. I usually use frozen garlic bread or Texas Toast because I always have it on hand, but frozen garlic toast works just as well. If you prefer homemade, my Homemade Garlic Bread recipe makes a delicious base, or you can use a loaf of French bread to make French bread pizza.
Favorite Pizza Toppings
These garlic bread pizzas can be as simple or loaded as you’d like. Here are some of our favorite topping ideas:
- Cheese: Mozzarella is my go-to, but Parmesan, Provolone, Romano, Gouda, or fresh mozzarella are all delicious.
- Meat: Pepperoni slices, anchovy, sausage, ham, bacon, seasoned ground beef, brisket, or cooked chicken.
- Veggies: Onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, jalapeños, pineapple, or minced garlic.
- Herbs: Fresh basil, parsley, oregano, or a sprinkle of Italian seasoning just before serving.
- Need some inspiration? Try Pepperoni, Meat Lovers, Hawaiian, BBQ Chicken, Buffalo Chicken, Veggie, Alfredo Chicken, or even Breakfast Pizza!
- Serving a crowd? Pair these with my Italian Pasta Salad or a simple side salad for an easy meal.
How to Make Garlic Bread Pizza

Step 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, aluminum foil, or a silicone baking mat. Arrange the frozen garlic bread or Texas Toast in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 2. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over each slice of garlic bread. Use as much or as little as you’d like. I prefer a lighter layer so the garlic flavor can still shine through. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. Freshly shredded mozzarella melts smoother than pre-shredded cheese, but either will work.

Step 3. Add your favorite toppings. This is the fun part! Customize each slice with your favorite pizza toppings.

Step 4. Return the pizzas to the oven and bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. If using a loaf of French bread, bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove pan from the oven and serve immediately.
Helpful Tips
- Don’t thaw the garlic bread. Bake it straight from frozen for the crispiest crust.
- Pre-bake the garlic bread for a few minutes before adding the sauce and toppings to help prevent sogginess.
- Freshly shredded mozzarella cheese melts smoother than pre-shredded cheese, but either works.
- Don’t overload the toppings. Too many can keep the crust from crisping up. If you’re making this for game day, pair it with my Southern Comeback Sauce or another favorite dipping sauce.
- Broil for 1-2 minutes at the end if you like extra golden, bubbly cheese.
- Let the pizzas rest for 1-2 minutes before serving so the cheese has time to set.
Make Ahead & Storage
- Make Ahead: I recommend assembling these just before baking since the pizza sauce can soften the garlic bread if it sits too long. To save time, chop your toppings ahead of time and keep everything refrigerated until you’re ready to assemble.
- Storage: Store leftover garlic bread pizzas in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheating: Reheat in a toaster oven, air fryer, or 350°F oven for a few minutes until heated through and crispy.
Garlic Bread Pizza Recipe FAQs
No! Bake the garlic bread straight from frozen. Pre-baking it for a few minutes before adding the pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings helps create a crisp crust and keeps the bread from becoming soggy.
Yes, as long as the garlic bread fits in your air fryer basket. Air fry until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the garlic bread is hot and crispy around the edges.
