When I was little, my mom would bring my brother and I to Pizza Hut in the summertime to use our free pizza coupons from the local library summer reading club. We would each get our own personal pan pizza and afterwards, we would get a slice of their dessert pizza. Their cinnamon roll pizza and caramel apple dessert pizza were my two favorites, which is why I decided to make a copycat version!

Apple Dessert Pizza Ingredient Notes
Below is a brief overview of each ingredient needed. To see the printable recipe card, scroll to the bottom of this post.
- Pizza Crust– I love a good shortcut, so I buy the thin pizza dough sold at the grocery store. Any brand works, but I like Pillsbury. You’ll need a 12 inch pizza crust. If you prefer homemade crust, HERE is a great recipe.
- Apple Pie Filling– you’ll need a 21 ounce can of apple filling for this recipe.
- Butter– I use unsalted butter to control the salt added into each recipe. Salted butter works great too. Be sure to let it sit out at room temperature.
- Brown Sugar– I use light brown sugar, this adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the crumble topping.
- Flour– all purpose flour is best.
- Oats– be sure to use old fashioned oats and not quick oats for this pizza.
- Cheese– although you may think this is weird, trust me on it. Shredded cheddar cheese is the perfect savory addition to this sweet pizza.
- Cinnamon– ground cinnamon will be combined into the topping to bring all the classic cinnamon streusel flavors.
- Powdered Sugar– you’ll use confectioner’s sugar with the cream and vanilla to create an icing to drizzle on top.
- Heavy Cream– any brand works, if needed, you can also use milk or half and half.
- Vanilla Extract– try to use pure vanilla extract versus imitation as it adds so much more flavor.
- Caramel Sauce– any brand works. This is the final addition before serving. Think caramel apples!
How to make Apple Pie Dessert Pizza
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Remove the crust from its package and place onto a pizza pan or baking sheet.
- Open the can of apple filling, and using a knife inserted into the can, coarsely chop the apples into smaller, bite-sized pieces.
- Pour the prepared apple filling onto the pizza crust, spreading it evenly across the surface, stopping at about ¼- ½ inches from the edge. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ¼ c. unsalted butter, light brown sugar, all-purpose flour, and cinnamon. Use a pastry cutter or fork to combine until the mixture is well-combined and crumbly.
- Add the old-fashioned oats and shredded cheddar cheese to the mixture.
- Generously sprinkle the oat crumble topping over the apple pie filling. Gently press the topping into the filling to help secure it into place.
- Bake in a 350-degree F oven for 25 minutes or until the pizza is cooked through, the pie filling is bubbling, and the crumb topping is slightly golden-brown and crispy.
- Remove from oven and allow up to 45 minutes for the pizza to cool for up to 45 minutes.
- While the pizza cools, prepare the icing. Whisk together the confectioners’ sugar, ½ c. unsalted butter, slowly drizzle the heavy cream until the desired consistency is achieved.
- Drizzle icing and caramel sauce across pizza… don’t forget—pizza should be cooled.
- Using a pizza cutter, large knife, or pizza rocker, slice the pizza, serve, and enjoy!
Substitutions and Variations
- Pie Filling– if you want to change this to a different fruit pizza, any flavor filling works. Raspberry, cherry, peach, blueberry, strawberry, etc.
- Crust– if you prefer homemade pizza dough versus store bought, HERE is a great recipe.
- Different Size Pan– although this recipe is written to use a sheet pan or pizza tray, feel free to use a 9×13 baking pan. Cast iron works great too. Just adjust the cook time accordingly.
- Fresh Apples– if you want to add in fresh apples, that is a great option. I would recommend still using the pie filling as it acts of the sauce to the pizza. You can chop fresh apples or use apple slices to add on top though. Great apple options are Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith.
- Nuts– chopped pecans or walnuts make a great topping option for a nice added crunch.
- Chocolate Chips– you can’t go wrong with a chocolate addition, so for an added sweetness, sprinkle some on top once pizza has cooled slightly.
Tips for Success
- This dessert is best served fresh, warm, and all ooey gooey. When serving, add some whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it a full dessert.
- If serving a large crowd, cut the pieces into small squares so everyone gets a piece.
- Feel free to omit the caramel sauce and/or icing drizzled on top to keep it simpler and less sweet.
- Although best served on the day made, don’t let those leftovers go to waste! Once cooled to room temperature, store slices of the pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last up to 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven or the microwave.
