Looking for the easiest homemade bread? This Bread Machine Beer Bread uses a few pantry staples and your favorite beer to make a tender loaf with zero kneading. Great for quick weeknight dinners or cozy weekend meals.

I've been making beer bread for years, but switching from oven-baked easy beer bread to beer bread for a bread machine was a game-changer. My trusty bread machine has seen everything: buttery bread machine rolls (think Texas Roadhouse), fluffy bread machine breadsticks, cinnamon swirl loaves, and even a mean beer-dough pizza crust. This version? Easily one of the easiest and most flavorful loaves it makes.

Ingredient Notes
See printable recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts and step by step directions.

- Beer– Use a non-flat, room-temperature beer. Amber ales, lagers, IPAs, or stouts all work as each brings its own personality to the loaf. Lighter beers = milder flavor. Darker beer = richer, deeper notes.
- Bread Flour– Provides structure and gives the loaf that classic bakery-style crumb. All-purpose will work in a pinch, but bread flour yields better results.
- Sugar– Adds slight sweetness and helps the crust brown beautifully.
- Salt– Balances the flavors and prevents the bread from tasting overly yeasty.
- Active Dry Yeast– Your bread machine can also use instant yeast or bread machine yeast. All three work well in this recipe.
How to Make Beer Bread in a Bread Maker

Step 1. Make sure the bread pan and paddle are in place. Pour the beer into the bread machine pan.

Step 2. Add the bread flour on top, fully covering the liquid. Make a small well in the center of the flour and add the sugar, salt, and yeast – keeping them away from the liquid.

Step 3. Select the Basic/White Bread cycle for a 1.5-lb loaf and set your preferred crust. About 10 minutes in, check the dough. It should form a smooth, slightly tacky ball. Too sticky? Add a tablespoon of flour; too dry? Add a tablespoon of water

Step 4. Once the cycle finishes, remove the bread from the pan and let it cool at least 30 minutes. This helps the loaf set and slice cleanly.
Tips for Success
- This recipe makes a 1½-lb loaf, perfect for sandwiches and toast.
- Don't skip the cooling time. Warm beer bread is tempting (trust me), but slicing too soon makes it squish.
- Experiment with different beers: Amber Ale for mild flavor, Stout for rich and slightly sweet flavor, IPA for loppy and slightly bitter flavor.
- Dress it up: Add rosemary, garlic powder, chives, thyme, or even shredded cheese for a twist like in my Herbed Beer Bread.
- Check the dough: Every bread machine behaves a little differently so adjust as needed.
Storage & Serving Suggestions
- Room Temp: Up to 3 days in a bread bag or wrapped well.
- Refrigerator: Good up to 6 days.
- Freezer: Up to 3 months – wrap tightly and thaw before serving.
- Reheating: Toast slices in the toaster, air fryer, or a 300°F oven just until warm.
- Serving: with Mixed Berry Instant Pot Jam or honey, as sandwich bread with Jalapeno Chicken Salad, alongside Mom’s classic meatloaf, French Onion Pork Chops, or soups & stews like my Creamy Chicken and Potato Soup.

Beer Bread Bread Machine Recipe FAQs
Amber ales are the most versatile and add great flavor, but you can use whatever you enjoy drinking. Lagers give a mild taste, IPAs add a little bitterness, and stouts deliver a rich, slightly sweet finish.
Not in a bread machine. You still need yeast for rise and structure. Beer adds flavor and moisture but won't lift the dough on its own.
Club soda, ginger ale, or non-alcoholic beer all work. They still provide carbonation for lift and flavor.
