    Ingredients for Birds Nest Cookies

See printable recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts and step by step directions.

    • Rice Krispy Cereal– look for the chocolate flavored Rice Krispies cereal as this offers the perfect addition to this birds nest dessert. You can use Cocoa Krispies for these Easter egg nest treats
    • Peanut Butter– smooth, creamy peanut butter is best in this recipe
    • Chocolate Chips– I use milk chocolate chips in this recipe, however, feel free to use whichever flavor you desire. I have heard from others that butterscotch chips, dark chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips work great too
    • Mini Cadbury Chocolate Eggs– you’ll want to look for the candy eggs that have a milk chocolate center

all the ingredients needed to make Bird Nests for Easter.

How to make this recipe for Bird Nest Cookies

    1. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips for 30 second intervals on low-power. Make sure to stir in between each interval until fully melted.
    2. Stir together the peanut butter and chocolate as soon as you take the chocolate out of the microwave.
    3. Pour the chocolate and peanut butter into the bowl with the Rice Krispies and stir until the cereal is fully coated.
    4. Using cooking spray, grease a 12-count muffin tin.
    5. Scoop the mixture evenly into the muffin pan, making sure the cups are full.
    6. Use a round measure spoon to slightly hollow out the center of each ‘bird nest’.
    7. Place muffin tin in the fridge or freezer to harden the ‘bird nests’.
    8. Once the nests are hardened, place three Cadbury mini eggs in the center and serve.

step by step on how to make Easter rice krispy nests

Pro Tips for making Rice Krispie Treat Bird Nests

    • If you cannot find Mini Chocolate Eggs, you can also use jelly beans, Peeps, or M & M’s.
    • To change things up, you can use chopped pretzels or chow mein noodles in place of the rice krispies cereal.
    • To make these more “nest like”, sprinkle some shredded toasted coconut on top of the rice krispy nests prior to adding the eggs.
    • Make sure your Easter nest cookies have fully cooled before adding the candy on top so that the chocolates don’t melt.
    • Use a spoon or cookie dough scoop to fill the muffin tins. This keeps the birds nest cookies recipe even and each nest the same size.
    • If you don’t have a muffin tin, you can shape these and place them on a baking sheet until fully cooled.

How to store Chocolate Birds Nest Cookies

    • Once fully cooled, you can place the bird’s nest cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days.
    • For easiest storage, separate each layer of chocolate birds nests using a piece of parchment paper.
    • If you need to store these longer then 3 days, you’ll want to freeze them and thaw once needed. Simply omit the chocolate candy until ready to serve.
    • You can refrigerate these up to 5 days, but they do get hard once refrigerated so be sure to allow them to return to room temperature before serving.
