What in Peeps Rice Krispie Treats?
Using only three ingredients, these Easter Rice Krispie treats are basically fool proof! See printable recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts and directions.
- Rice Krispies Cereal– you can use Kellogg’s brand or store brand rice cereal, whichever you prefer!
- Marshmallow Peeps– I used blue, pink, yellow, and purple packages of Easter Peeps to get a fun pastel blend of colors throughout the bars!
- Butter– unsalted butter is what I use, but salted butter works too!
How to make Easter Rice Krispie Treats with Peeps
- Grease a 8×8 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large pot, melt butter over low heat.
- Add in the Peeps and allow to melt without stirring them.
- Remove from heat and stir in the rice crispy cereal.
- Once fully combined, spread into an even layer in prepared pan.
- Allow to fully cool, then slice and serve as an Easter treat or tasty dessert!
Storing Leftover Peep Rice Crispy Treats
- Once fully cooled, these can be stored at room temperature for up to 4 days in an airtight container.
- If you choose to place into a bag, just make sure you remove all the air, so they don’t get stale.
- No need to refrigerate these as the fridge will only make them hard and not as chewy and delicious!
- If desired, you can slice these up and place in layers on parchment paper in a storage container for an easy gran and go dessert.
Peeps Rice Krispies Pro Tips
- Try to make sure you don’t smash the cereal mixture into the pan. Gently spread it into the baking pan using a rubber spatula, wooden spoon, or even your hands.
- Keep the heat at low on the stove as you don’t want to burn the Peeps marshmallows.
- Since these bars are quite sticky, the easiest way to handle everything is to grease it. Grease the baking dish, the spatula or spoon you are using, etc.
- Add in fun Easter candy to make these even more festive. Some great options are jellybeans, mini marshmallows, sprinkles, mini-Cadbury eggs, etc.
- Use fun cookie cutters to make these into festive shapes!
- For a more vibrant color, you can add a few drops of food coloring to the marshmallow mixture.

Mine turned out a muddy color not the individual colors shown in the picture. I used pink, blue, purple & yellow peeps. What did I do wrong?

This has happened to me in the past when the heat was too high while cooking. The key to success is low and slow. Low heat and stir, stir, stir to avoid any burning. Once melted, remove from heat fully and stir in the rice krispy cereal. Should be a bit darker in color, but still pastel and festive.
