Are you an Oreo fan? In my house, we almost always have Oreo’s on hand. From double stuffed, to mint flavored, my kids, hubby, and I are obsessed. You can’t beat a dunked Oreo in a cold glass of milk, right?! Combining my love for classic Rice Krispie Treat recipe with my favorite chocolate stuffed cookies, you get no-bake Oreo Rice Krispies and let me tell you….they are ooey gooey and pure perfection! Also try my Fudgy Oreo Brownies, Oreo Brownie Trifle, and Oreo Dirt Cake for more dessert options you’ll love!

    Recipe Tips for Success

Before getting started, here are some great tips to ensure success each and every time!

    • Don’t pack the mixture into the prepared pan. You want to gently pat it into an even layer, no packing needed as this results in the bars being compact.
    • If you have extra time, I suggest browning the butter. It isn’t required, which is why I didn’t put it in the recipe card, but browning the butter over medium heat until brown (about 5 minutes) adds so much more flavor to these Oreo rice krispie bars.
    • When crushing the Oreo’s, it’s okay if they are different size pieces. In fact, I love that part as each bite is completely different. If you want a more uniform look and taste, you can use a food processor.
    • Let the rice krispies treats cool completely before slicing as this ensures the marshmallow mixture has set up and will allow the bars to slice easily and make evenly cut pieces.
    • If you have vanilla extract, stir about 1-2 teaspoon into the butter mixture for an added flavor boost.

    Ingredient Notes

Below is a brief overview of the simple ingredients needed to make this Oreo Rice Krispie Treats recipe. To see printable recipe card with exact amounts and directions, scroll to the bottom of this post or click the “jump to recipe” button at the top.

    • Oreo Cookies– I use about 20 regular Oreo cookies, however, you can use double stuff or any other flavor desired (golden Oreo’s and peanut butter Oreo’s are great options). If you are looking to make these gluten free, look for the gluten-free Oreo’s! You’ll want to roughly crush the cookies by placing them into a Ziploc bag and crushing them with a rolling pin.
    • Butter– unsalted butter or salted butter works in this recipe. I tend to use unsalted butter to control the salt a bit more in most recipes.
    • Marshmallows– you’ll need about 6 cups for these Oreo krispie treats. I prefer using mini marshmallows because they melt better AND I like to stir in a few extra mini marshmallows so the treats are extra gooey! YUM!
    • Rice Krispie Cereal– crispy rice cereal, any brand is the base of this recipe. I typically use store brand as it’s typically a bit cheaper in price as compared to Kellogg’s.

    Additions

The best part of these rice crispy treats with Oreo’s is they are fully customizable. In addition to the Oreo cookies, you can also stir in mini M & M’s, chocolate chips, chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups, peanut butter chips, fried fruit, or sprinkles. My daughter loves to melt some white chocolate chips and drizzle them over the bars once cooled and just before serving. It’s an added sweet variation we love!

How to make Oreo Rice Krispies Treats

Spray a 9×13 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray, set aside. Add the cookies to a large Ziploc bag, and crush them with a rolling pin or something similar. Set aside.

Allow the treats to set for about an hour at room temperature, then cut into squares using a knife and enjoy.

    How to Store

If you don't eat them all in one sitting and have leftovers, cover the pan with plastic wrap or put the treats in an airtight container and store on your counter for up to 4 days. I don’t recommend placing in the refrigerator as this makes them hard and not as soft and gooey. If you need to keep them in the refrigerator, be sure to let them come to room temperature again before serving. It is also not recommended to freeze the cereal bars as they become mushy once thawed.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my Rice Krispy Treats hard and not gooey?

Unfortunately, I have found this can happen when the heat is too high when using the stove. I use medium heat and keep an eye on it, but low heat works great too and helps avoid the sugars from crystalizing.

Can I increase the butter in these Rice Krispie Oreo Treats to make them more savory?

It is not recommend to change the butter amount as using too much results in soggy bars.

Why are my marshmallows not melting evenly?

If not using fresh marshmallows, this can happen. You want to use a freshly purchased bag from the store versus using up that rock hard bag that may have been in the back of your pantry. If you have an older bag, use it up in hot cocoa instead of using it in this recipe. Trust me, fresh is best!

Can Rice Krispie Treats be made with marshmallow fluff?

Yes, this is a good alternative to using mini marshmallows, however, it will change the texture. The bars won’t be as firm as fluffy is more fluid. 2 cups of mini marshmallows are the equivalent of a 7 ounce jar.
