The Best Rolls for Slider Recipes
Over the years, I have tested several brands and types of slider buns. Each and every time, my favorite still ends up being King’s Hawaiian Rolls! They offer several flavors from savory butter, honey wheat, and jalapeno, to my favorite, which is the original. You can’t go wrong with whichever flavor you choose, but King’s has the best. Perfectly sized, fluffy, and the original has a touch of sweetness that makes a great addition to any slider recipe. Of course, if Hawaiian Rolls aren’t an option for you, homemade dinner rolls work great too!
Ingredient Notes for Cheeseburger Sliders with Hawaiian Rolls
Below is a brief overview of each ingredient needed in this recipe. To see printable recipe card with exact amounts and step by step directions, scroll below to bottom of post.
- Ground Beef– stick with lean ground beef. 90/10 and 93/7 are my go-to in this recipe, however, if you have a higher fat count, that works too. You’ll just need to drain the cooked beef a bit more. Ground turkey works as well.
- Oil– I use vegetable oil, however, avocado oil, canola oil, or olive oil work great too.
- Hawaiian Rolls– I love King’s Hawaiian Rolls as the flavor adds a touch of sweetness. Feel free to use any brand or type desired of slider rolls.
- Garlic Powder– you’ll use this to season the ground beef. Fresh minced garlic works great too.
- Salt/ Black Pepper– season to taste.
- Butter– salted butter or unsalted butter works great. You’ll need melted butter as this will be used to brush on the top of the sliders.
- Sesame Seeds– optional, but this is a tasty garnish to add just prior to baking the easy sliders in the oven. Everything but the Bagel Seasoning works great too.
- Cheese– I love using slices of Cheddar cheese, however, American cheese slices, pepper jack cheese, etc. all work great too!
- Pickles– optional, but if you love pickles on your classic hamburgers, how can you pass it up, right?
Variations of Mini Burger Sliders
There are so many ways to customize these mini sliders to make them your own! Here are just a few fun options to try:
- Saute mushrooms and/or peppers and add them on top of the beef mixture before baking.
- Cooked bacon is always a tasty addition to make bacon cheeseburger sliders.
- Ground chicken or turkey works in place of the beef if preferred.
- Make a toppings bar so people can serve theirs as desired. Tomato slices, jalapenos, mayonnaise, ketchup, BBQ sauce, Southern Comeback Sauce (my fav special sauce), sweet pickle relish, etc. are great options.
How to make Cheeseburger Sliders
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Once heated, add the ground beef and chopped onion.
- Break apart the beef with a wooden or silicone spatula. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir everything together in the pan, and cook until the beef is browned.
- Drain the grease from the beef and set it aside.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter the bottom of a baking sheet.
- Without separating the individual buns, cut the rolls in half horizontally to create two sheets: top buns and bottom buns.
- Spoon the ground beef onto the bottom buns and spread it in an even layer. Add cheese slices to each burger, overlapping the slices for extra cheesiness.
- Place the top buns over the cheese. Melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and spread it over the tops of the buns. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Place sheet pan in oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the buns are golden. Enjoy!
Tips for making Easy Cheeseburger Sliders
- Be sure to drain all excess grease from cooked meat before moving onto next step as you don’t want the mixture to have too much liquid. This would cause the sliders to get soggy and mushy, which no one wants!
- Bake uncovered as you want the tops to get a bit crisp and not get soggy.
- If you’re worried about the bottom buns getting mushy, I have found that placing the cheese onto the bottom and adding the meat mixture on top can help create a barrier to avoid this.
- For added flavor, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce added to the meat is a tasty addition.
Storing Hamburger Sliders
- Store leftover cheeseburger sliders in an airtight container, or wrapped in aluminum foil for up to 4 days.
- Reheat in a 350°F oven for 15-20 minutes, or until warmed through. The microwave is also a great option, but they get softer than in oven.
- Sliders can be pre-made a day ahead of time, then covered and refrigerated. If baking from chilled, add a few minutes to the cook time to make sure cheese gets melted.
- You can freeze these for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw overnight in fridge before reheating.
What to serve with Cheeseburger Sliders
The best part about these sliders is they are so versatile! You can enjoy them on their own or pair them with just about anything desired. I serve them as an appetizer when hosting parties, game day, or needing a quick snack to serve. If I am using them for a meal, I pair them with onion rings, french fries, chips, or macaroni and cheese. We love to make my Comeback Sauce or Boom Boom Sauce to use as a dipping option when serving!
