Learn how to make Jello Shots with Tequila (or vodka) in this easy recipe! The perfect treat for summer or any party/gathering!

tequila and jello mix combined into tasty jello shots

A few weeks ago, my neighborhood hosted a crawfish boil and all the neighbors brought side dishes to share! I brought my Texas Sheet Cake and it was a huge hit! One of my neighbors brought jello shots for the adults to enjoy and they too were a huge hit. After having one, I decided I wanted to trying making some on my own.

The following weekend, I whipped these up and had them in the fridge chilling within minutes! I brought them over to some neighbors that evening and everyone enjoyed them! Obviously, since there is liquor in them, be careful with how many you have as these do catch up to you after a while. You can make them any flavor and adjust the alcohol amount based on preference!

I made mine using Tequila and Black Cherry Jello, but you can also use vodka and any Jello flavor desired!!

Play around with it and let me know what flavors you try!

Ingredients Needed for these easy Jello Shots:

    • 3 oz package Jello (I use a 6 oz and double everything as seen in recipe card below)
    • 1 cup boiling water
    • ½ cup Tequila (or Vodka)
    • ½ cup cold water
    • Small cups, condiment containers, etc.

    How to prepare:

    1. In a medium bowl, combine the Jello mix with boiling water.
    2. Stir until Jello is completely dissolved.
    3. Pour in the alcohol and cold water, stirring once more.
    4. Divide mixture into small cups, condiment containers, Dixie cups, etc. *I used condiment cups because they come with a lid making it easy to transport the shots.
    5. Place cups in refrigerator for a few hours to allow Jello to set up entirely.
    6. Keep chilled until ready to serve!

only 4 ingredients needed to create these simple, flavorful jello shots

    Fun Variations to try

Several people make layered shots using different colors of Jello and letting each layer set before adding the next. Perfect for Fourth of July (red, white, ang blue), Christmas (green, red, and white), or Halloween (orange, white, and yellow).

If you don’t have small plastic cups to make these shots in, feel free to pour the mixture into a non-stick baking pan and once set, cut into small cubes.

What type of alcohol is best for Jello Shots?

Typically, vodka is the go-to alcohol in Jello Shots, however, I prefer Tequila in mine, so I tend to go that route. You can also use Malibu Rum or anything you prefer. Please drink responsibly.

    How long do these last?

These are good for about 3-4 days in the refrigerator, so feel free to prepare them ahead of when you plan on serving. If left out at room temperature, these won’t last long, most likely only 30-40 minutes as they become too runny of consistency. Keep chilled and they will be a hit with all the adults.
