Easy Crescent Chicken Roll Ups
This classic recipe is one that has been in my family for many generations! In fact, you may have heard this recipe go by the name of Chicken Puffs, Chicken Pillows, Chicken Bundles, or even Crescent Chicken Squares. My kids request these frequently and even enjoy helping me make them! Perfect for those busy weeknights when time just isn’t readily available, these are ready in only 30 minutes!
With a creamy chicken filling stuffed inside a warm, flaky crescent, these are perfect for any occasion! Use leftover cooked chicken from a previous meal, or save on time by using a Rotisserie chicken.
Ingredients Needed for these Chicken Crescent Roll Ups
Using just a few pantry staple ingredients, this recipe comes together in no time and is quite budget friendly. For exact ingredient amounts and step by step directions, see printable recipe card below.
- Chicken– cooked, shredded chicken is used in this recipe. You can use any leftover chicken, Rotisserie chicken, or even canned chicken!
- Cream Cheese– softened, for added flavor, you can use garlic and herb flavored cream cheese.
- Butter– softened, use unsalted as salt will be added with seasonings.
- Salt/Pepper/Garlic Powder– to taste, this gives the roll ups extra flavor, adjust amounts according to tastes.
- Milk– any kind works, I tend to use 2%.
- Onion– minced, dried or fresh will work.
- Refrigerated Crescent Rolls– these are typically found in the dairy refrigerated section of your grocery store. Pillsbury is my favorite, although store brand works too.
- Chicken Gravy– you can use store bought, or try my homemade Simple Chicken Gravy for an even easier method!
Optional Add In’s to try
If you want to try some fun variations and really enhance the flavor of these chicken bundles, here are some great options:
- Bacon– cooked and crumbled, my fav addition! Even bacon bits work great!
- Cayenne Pepper– this adds quite a kick, so I wouldn’t go this route with kids.
- Chopped Peppers– dice some bell peppers for an added crunch to the chicken mixture.
- Mushrooms– chopped, this adds a great texture with the creamy chicken.
- Spinach– add some fresh spinach leaves to each bundle to get some greens into your diet.
- Cheese– shredded Cheddar, Colby, Mozzarella, Parmesan Cheese, or Pepper Jack cheese make a great addition.
- Green Onions– chopped
- Vegetables– chopped broccoli, green beans, peas, and more are great additions into the crescent roll ups.

Serving Suggestions
You’re probably wondering what to serve with these tasty chicken rolls, right? Well, here are some great options:
- Side Salad– yep, keep it simple and either make a fresh salad or buy a bagged salad kit from the grocery store.
- Mexican Corn Casserole– my kids love this corn dish. All the flavors are authentic Mexican corn, made in the convenience of a casserole.
- Roasted Asparagus– now, I know asparagus isn’t known to be super kid friendly, but my kids LOVE this Garlic Parmesan recipe and request it often!
- Crispy Brussel Sprouts– if you have an air fryer, these are the veggies to try. Perfectly crispy and delicious every time!
Tips for Success
- To save on time, make large batches of cooked chicken and freeze for later meals. I love to stick several pounds of chicken into my slow cooker or Instant Pot and shred once tender. Shred and allow to fully cool, then store in labelled freezer bags for a later date. Perfect for quick casseroles!
- An easy way to shred chicken once cooked is to use an electric hand mixer in a bowl and blend until shredded. Easy peasy.
- If you aren’t a fan of chicken gravy, feel free to use a dollop of sour cream on top or a can of warmed up cream of chicken soup.
- These chicken roll ups freeze perfectly, so you can always make a double batch and freeze some for later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you cook these crescent rolls in the air fryer?
Absolutely! I would recommend cooking these at 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
What can I put on top of these to add flavor?
Chopped Parsley or Green Onions are a great option to top these with! You can also sprinkle some bread crumbs on top for added texture and flavor!
Do I have to use shredded chicken or can I change up the meat?
Although I haven’t personally tried it, several people have told me they have used cooked ground beef in place of the chicken. You can also add a taco flair to these by adding in taco seasoning and topping with sour cream versus the chicken gravy.
