My kids love sweets (obviously!), and nothing gets them more excited than a homemade Saturday morning breakfast treat. Truth be told, I was the same way growing up. Saturday mornings meant cartoons, sleeping in, and a special breakfast from my mom. This Cinnamon Sugar Pull Apart Loaf was always a favorite. Made with refrigerated Pillsbury biscuits coated in butter, cinnamon, and sugar, it bakes into a sweet, sticky loaf that’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon treat. If you love recipes like this, be sure to try my Cinnamon Roll Monkey Bread or Monkey Bread Muffins, too.

    Ingredient Notes

See printable recipe card below for exact ingredients and full directions.

All the ingredients needed to make cinnamon sugar pull apart loaf.
    • Butter: Melted butter helps the cinnamon sugar mixture stick to every piece of biscuit dough and creates that sweet, sticky coating.
    • Pillsbury Biscuits: I typically use Pillsbury Grands biscuits, but any refrigerated biscuit dough will work. You can also use homemade buttermilk biscuits if preferred.

How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Pull Apart Loaf

Biscuit pieces cut into quarters on a wood cutting board.

Step 1. Open the refrigerated biscuit package and cut each biscuit into quarters.

Melted butter in a small white bowl next to a glass dish of cinnamon sugar.

Step 2. Melt the butter in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar.

Biscuit pieces dipped in melted butter and cinnamon sugar before placing into a white loaf pan to bake.

Step 3. Dip each biscuit piece into the melted butter, then coat it in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Place the coated pieces into a loaf pan coated with non-stick cooking spray. Once all the biscuit pieces have been coated, place the loaf pan in the oven.

Step 4. Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 23-26 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven, invert onto a serving plate, and serve warm.

    Baking Tips

    • Pillsbury Grands biscuits work best for a soft, fluffy texture.
    • Coat each biscuit piece completely in the melted butter and cinnamon sugar mixture.
    • Bake until the top is golden brown and the center is cooked through.
    • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for extra crunch and flavor.

    Storage & Reheating

    • Counter: Cover tightly with foil or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
    • Refrigerator: Cover with foil or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
    • Freezer: Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil, then freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.
    • Reheating: Warm individual pieces in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or in the air fryer at 300 degrees for 2-3 minutes.

Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread with Biscuits Recipe FAQs

Is monkey bread the same as pull-apart bread?

They’re very similar. Monkey bread is often baked in a bundt pan, while pull-apart bread can be baked in a loaf pan and served in slices.

Why is pull-apart bread called monkey bread?

Monkey bread gets its name from the way people pull apart and eat the individual pieces by hand.

What can I add to monkey bread?

Chopped pecans, walnuts, raisins, chocolate chips, or a simple glaze are all great additions. For another fun variation, try my Apple Cinnamon Monkey Bread.

My pan is 8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches but the next size up is the 9 inch loaf pan and that works great too!

You say to spray a Bundt pan but then you say to put the biscuits in a loaf pan. The two are not the same!

I’m not seeing the bundt pan directions on this post? I only see the loaf pan directions. This can be made in either type of pan though, 🙂

Depends on the oven, starting at 20 minutes, keep an eye on it to add time!
