Ingredients Needed for this Beach Drink Recipe
To make this refreshing cocktail, you need just a few simple ingredients. Whether you choose to add the garnish or omit, you can’t go wrong! See printable recipe card below for exact ingredient amounts and step by step directions
- Malibu Coconut Rum– this coconut flavored rum adds all the flavors of the beach right to this tasty drink.
- Sprite– this adds the fun bubbles/carbonation to the drink. Feel free to use ginger ale or 7-up if you don’t have Sprite on hand.
- Cran-Cherry Juice– you can find this at your local grocery store. If they don’t have the cran-cherry, feel free to use cranberry juice.
- Lime/Orange Slice– although optional, who doesn’t love a fun garnish?
Variations
- Garnish with an orange slice or lime wedge.
- Lime juice: Add lime juice if you love a stronger lime flavor.
- Simple syrup: If you feel your drink isn’t sweet enough, you can always add as much simple syrup as desired.
- Fresh pineapple: You can also use sliced pineapple or pineapple wedge as a rim decoration for a more tropical vibe! But if you love a good lime wheel, that works too! You can also use a splash of pineapple juice.
- Orange liqueur: If you can’t get enough orange flavor, it pairs with most fruity drinks, so don’t be afraid to try it! A splash of orange juice works too!
- Cranberry juice: If you cannot find or like cran-cherry juice, using cranberry juice or its other cran-variations can work too.
How to make these easy Beachside Cocktails
- Fill a cocktail glass with ice.
- Pour in the Malibu Rum, Sprite, and Cran Cherry Juice.
- Stir around to combine.
- Garnish with a lime/orange slice if desired.
Expert Tips
- Using a cocktail shaker is a great way to get your drinks chilled quickly and thoroughly mixed.
- Have fun with the garnishes and even add paper straws or fun colored umbrellas.
- We like to serve our drinks in highball cocktail glasses, however, hurricane glasses are a fun serving idea too.
- You can increase to make this drink in a pitcher and serve at any party or gathering,
- To make this alcohol free, you can omit the Malibu Rum altogether OR use coconut milk, cream of coconut, or coconut water in place of the Malibu Coconut Rum.
- I used Malibu Red in this originally, however, it has since been discontinued, therefore now I use Malibu Rum.
How to serve
- These cocktails are best served chilled in cocktail glasses. Prepare the drink just before needed because once the ingredients are combined, you don’t want to prepare these too early otherwise the Sprite may go flat.
- To serve in a large pitcher, chill the pitcher (or freeze it) first. This will keep it cold longer without needing to add ice cubes that may water it down too much.
- Add garnish fruit wedge as well as paper umbrellas and straws.
- Serve to adults 21 and older only, these are tasty but they do catch up to you quickly. Drink responsibly.
