Don’t you just love a good casserole? I know I sure do! So many varieties, budget friendly, kid friendly, and great to serve when company comes over!
With the school year here, my hubby and I spend our evenings driving our kids to and from sports, attending games, get things gathered for the next school day, and basically, running around until bedtime.
Since dinnertime can be crazy, I try to make something that can be prepped and cooked ahead of time, and served quickly.
Each week, I draft up a meal plan to keep things simple. It helps keep us on track as far as knowing what needs to be thawed in the morning, plus it helps with our budget because I know just what I need to buy each week.

When I looked at my meal plan last week, I noticed I had written burgers and fries for dinner. However, I didnt plan that smart because we had my sons football game to attend, leaving minimal time to grill burgers.
Opting to go the casserole route, I took the french fries and beef and decided to make this dish.
I cooked the ground beef, drained the fat, made a ketchup/mustard sauce, and dumped the french fries on top. I saw this idea floating around Pinterest, so I was curious how it would turn out!
Not only did the french fries get perfectly crisp, but the beef and ketchup/mustard sauce truly made this taste like we were enjoying a burger and fries! Packed with flavor and incredibly simple to prepare!
All the flavors of a tasty burger and fries combine into this family friendly, one pan casserole!
Feel free to make this a Cheeseburger Casserole with tater tots by substituting the fries with tots!
Another great option would be to add in some cooked bacon! Who doesn’t love bacon cheeseburgers, right?! How about some jalapenos to add some heat? See how many options you have?
I prepped this in the afternoon, cooked it early evening, and even reheating it was delicious! The next day, we were able to enjoy the leftovers for lunch and it was just as tasty! My hubby warmed his leftovers up in the microwave, however, I put mine in the oven and the fries crisped right up. Yum!
If you love simple, flavorful one pan meals…this casserole is for you!

This might be a dumb question. I’m planning on making this for dinner. Do you put the fries in right out of the freezer or do they need to sit out a little?
Kristin says
Sorry for the delayed response! I typically take the bag out when starting to prepare the recipe, but no need to thaw first! Enjoy!

When I made this recipe the first time, I used one pound of ground beef as directed. I didn’t think it was enough. That being said, my almost 2 year old grandson LOVED it:). I made it again, this time using 2 pounds of ground beef and it’s AWESOME. I didn’t change the measurements of the sauce ingredients. It’s definitely on my meal rotation.

Yay!! Such a hit with kids, mine love this meal! Good tip on the ground beef, 2lbs sounds great too!

I made this for tonight’s supper. I made the sauce as stated and liked the flavour. I had too many fries, I just dumped the whole 800gr. bag on but was too many, and they did not brown. I might cook the fries first before putting on next time. Was quick, cheap and easy to make.
Kristin says
The fries can be a preference thing as some like lots, others don’t. A great way to brown them up at the end would be to add a few minutes under the broiler! Enjoy!

ran across this recipe and it was great. I didn’t have any cream of mushroom, so I substituted it with cream of potato. the fries weren’t quite crispy enough for my liking so I broiled on high for 4 mins longer. I was very happy with how this turned out. very filling
Kristin says
Yay! Glad to hear you enjoyed it and great idea on using cream of potato, I bet that was a tasty variation!!

This may be a dumb question, but do you use regular dill relish or sweet relish?
Thanks!
Kristin says
Not a dumb question at all! I use regular dill relish, however, whichever kind you have on hand will work great! Hope you enjoy!!
