I feel like Rice Krispies treats are a very polarizing snack. Either you love them (me! me!) or you hate them. What’s so much fun about Rice Krispies Treats is the ridiculous variety of recipes that can be found. These are great, because it’s really just the normal side of the box recipe with food coloring. I’ll break down how to make them below, but you only need a box of cereal, some marshmallows, a little butter and food coloring! Once these treats come together, it’ll bring back those fond memories of the school lunch line. Did you school have anything other than these desserts? I know mine didn’t!
Rice Krispies Treats are crunchy and sweet. Add some food coloring and you have a perfect fireworks side dish!
There’s some backstory to this specific recipe. I often avoid taking my kids grocery shopping, because it’s inevitable I end up with something that I don’t want and don’t need. Last month it was mango. My daughter swore she loved mango. She even told me she “had it at a friend’s house” and nearly ate the whole thing herself! Well, who was I to suppress her love of mango? I bought one for her. After nearly cutting my finger off trying to slice it up, she decided she actually hated mango. My oldest this time picked out Rice Krispies cereal, swearing it was his “absolute favorite” cereal. One half-eaten bowl later, and he confirmed they were not his favorite. It left me with 9/10 of a box though, and what better way to eat them than mixed with marshmallows and butter?
Fourth of July Rice Krispies Treats combine all the fun and flavor of the original recipe, but with food coloring!
Seriously, anything can be made better with food coloring! These are no exception, and just look at how fun they turn out! Enough rambling on, skip down to the recipe below for all of the ingredients and directions (if you don’t have your Rice Krispies box handy!) and get to making these wonderful treats!
