These homemade Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks make for a simple recipe but are packed with flavor and are ready in no time using the air fryer!

crispy cheese sticks perfect for dipping in your favorite sauce

Last week, I decided to make Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken sliders for dinner. Since I was tied up with the chicken, I asked my hubby to throw some fries into the air fryer. As he rummaged through our freezer, he realized we didn’t have any fries on hand and therefore my quick and easy side dish option was a no go!

breaded cheese sticks seasoned and made crispy using the air fryer

We had gone to Costco earlier in the week and purchased a huge bag of mozzarella string cheese for the kids’ lunches, so he decided to whip up a batch of homemade, traditional mozzarella sticks instead. Pretty impressive, right?! He set out to work and had these ready for us to enjoy with our sandwiches!

His mozzarella stick recipe ended up having the most perfect crisp on the outside, but the cheese was ooey gooey and an incredible addition to our sandwiches. Was it the healthiest dinner? No, but we sure did enjoy it!

Not only can these delicious mozzarella sticks be a great side dish, but they also make a great appetizer for any party! Make a large batch, add some dipping sauces, and everyone is sure to eat them up! We dipped ours into Buffalo sauce since it’s a favorite in my house, but ranch, BBQ sauce, or warm marinara sauce would be a great dipping option too!

So, make these easy air fryer mozzarella sticks for game day, happy hour, your next party or just a random Tuesday—and all are sure to enjoy them!

And if you don’t have an air fryer, I highly recommend getting one. Check out the one I have HERE! Enjoy!

    Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks Ingredients

    • Egg
    • Breadcrumbs (Panko breadcrumbs are popular)
    • Italian seasoning
    • Salt (You can add some black pepper if you want a kick of heat)
    • Garlic powder
    • Mozzarella cheese sticks

    Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks Directions

    1. In a bowl, whisk the egg and set aside.
    2. In a separate bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, salt, and garlic powder.
    3. Cut the mozzarella sticks in half to create a total of 12 sticks.
    4. Dip cheese sticks into the egg mixture each individually, followed by the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it is coated thoroughly.
    5. Place on cookie sheet and place cookie sheet into freezer for about 30 minutes.
    6. Preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees and spray the tops of the cheese sticks with cooking spray to help brown them up a bit.
    7. Place cheese sticks into the air fryer basket and cook for about 4 minutes.
    8. Flip them over and cook an additional 4 minutes for best results.
    9. At this point, the mozzarella sticks should be golden brown to crispy perfection. Remove from the air fryer and serve!
