One of my kids’ favorite desserts are s’mores! Anytime we have a fire, go camping, or even have the grill turned on…they always ask if we have the needed supplies on hand!
However, when you live in Houston and its always averaging 90’s, no one wants to have a fire to heat things up more, right?!
That’s where the air fryer comes in! Who would have thought I could roast veggies, cook chicken tenders, fries, AND make the best s’mores ever!
Last week, I realized I had chocolate bars, marshmallows, and graham crackers on hand. I decided to surprise the kids with s’mores for dessert, but then it began to rain outside! Having to change plans quickly, I decided to try my air fryer.
After a few trials and errors, these Air Fryer S’mores came about and were DEFINITELY worth the few fails we had!
Ready in only a few minutes, simple clean up, and just as flavorful as the roasted version outside…. I’d say we hit a homerun!
Never again will weather stop us from enjoying this classic sweet treat!
Why this recipe works
No campfire? Not a problem! The good news is you don’t need a fire to make s’mores, just an air fryer! These easy s’mores are just what you need to satisfy that sweet tooth in under 5 minutes. Simple, flavorful, and easy! Even the kids can help you, so it is a great opportunity for family fun!
Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer S’mores
See recipe card below for exact amounts
- Graham Crackers– I love using the honey graham crackers for a classic s’more, however, if you want to change it up, you can also use chocolate graham crackers
- Marshmallows– I recommend the large marshmallows and only one per s’more as the minis tend to make a mess and adding a few ends up with ooey gooey marshmallow everywhere
- Chocolate– plain milk chocolate bars are what I use and love! Yep, the OG Hershey bar broken in half
Step by Step Instructions
- Place 1/2 the graham crackers on bottom of air fryer basket.
- Cut a small amount of the marshmallow off one side to make it sticky.
- Place sticky part of marshmallow on to graham cracker bottom. *This helps it stick so marshmallow doesn’t fly around air fryer when baking.
- Close air fryer and cook at 390 degrees F for about 3 minutes. *You can add 1-2 minutes if you like it more toasted.
- Remove marshmallow/graham cracker from air fryer.
- Stick a piece of chocolate on top of marshmallow with the top of the graham cracker to create a sandwich
What is the best chocolate to use for these air fryer s’mores?
The beauty of this recipe is you can be as creative as you want. Use a classic Hershey bar, or opt for something different.
I love using plain milk chocolate. Hershey bars are my fav; however, you can use white chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate chips, and even a Reese’s cup for an added peanut butter addition!
What crackers do you recommend?
Any type of sweet cracker works! I have heard of people even using Oreos and separating them to use as a S’more. I prefer honey graham crackers, but if you asked my kids, they would say they prefer a chocolate graham cracker! Ginger snaps work, sugar cookies, etc. So many choices!
What kind of marshmallows should I use for S’mores?
With so many options out there, you really can’t go wrong. My go-to marshmallow for these s’mores regular, large marshmallows. Mini marshmallows tend to be difficult to use. Jumbo always leave the marshmallow to chocolate ratio a bit imbalanced, and I just have yet to find a good flavored marshmallow that wins over the classic, regular version. Of course, go whichever route you prefer, but if you want a tried and true classic, regular large marshmallows are the way to go.
How Many Chocolate Bars Do You Need For Air Fryer S’mores
Since its hard to stop at just one s’more, I always plan on two per person. With each s’more being half the chocolate bar, one full chocolate bar per person is a safe estimate.
Tips
- All air fryers cook differently! Keep an eye on your marshmallows after about 2 minutes to ensure they aren’t cooking faster than expected.
- Be sure to add the chocolate after the marshmallow is roasted. If adding before, you run the risk of burning the chocolate and that’s just not tasty. Trust me.
- Create a single layer of the graham crackers with no overlapping. This will ensure the marshmallows roast evenly. You can go in batches if needed.
How to make S’mores in the oven
If you don’t have an air fryer or campfire, you can certainly use the oven to make your s’mores. Simply line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper and place the graham cracker and marshmallow together on the sheet. Broil for about 1 minute, or until desired goodness is reached. Remove and add the chocolate and other half of your graham cracker.
Variations
There are so many different ways that you can create your own indoor s’mores using different ingredients and variations. Just one unique ingredient can change the classic childhood flavor and become your new favorite s’mores recipe.
- Peanut butter- spread it on top of the cracker before making your sandwich
- Peanut butter cups- use these in place of the chocolate bar
- Bananas- add these on top of the chocolate bar
- Raspberries or strawberries- these get added at the end, on the chocolate bar
- Coconut shavings- sprinkle desired amount over the chocolate
- Chocolate graham crackers- this changes classic golden honey flavoring to chocolate goodness
- Peppermint patties- such a fun, festive addition
- A sprinkle of cinnamon- sounds interesting, but trust me, you need to try it at least once
How to Serve Air Fryer S’mores
Eat it fresh from the air fryer, or serve on a serving tray/platter. Try to each them somewhat quickly versus letting them sit out for a bit as the marshmallow is best when its ooey gooey, and the chocolate is melted! The messier the better, right?!
Do S’mores Store Well?
Unfortunately, no! You will only want to make as many s’mores as you plan to eat. S’mores will become soggy and won’t store in the fridge or on the counter. Luckily, these are so simple and quick to make, no need to store them. Just make them anytime that craving hits!
