I received this recipe from my fellow cookin chick Tammy, and have made it several times since then. It is definitely a hit with her family and mine, and I realized today, that we had not blogged it yet. This pasta is full of flavor and my kids enjoy it as well, which of course is always an added bonus!!
4-5 Italian sausages (peel off casing around sausages to make crumbles)
1 cup chopped onion
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 (16oz) can Italian styled diced tomatoes
1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
1 cup heavy cream
5-6 basil leaves, chopped
12 oz penne pasta
Grated Parmesan (for topping)
Cook the pasta in salted water to al dente. While pasta is cooking, brown sausage. Add in the onions and garlic to the sausage and saute for a few minutes. Pour in entire can of tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Simmer until heated through. Add in cup of cream. Continue cooking until thoroughly heated through. (The longer you cook sauce, the thicker it will get). Add in fresh basil and cook for a few more minutes. Finally mix pasta and sausage/tomato sauce together. Sprinkle with Parmesan and serve!
