These Southern Hush puppies are the perfect complement to any dish! They fry up light and fluffy, with the perfect amount of spice!

    Southern Hush Puppies

I don’t know about you, but when I am eating good BBQ, nothing goes better with it than a side of fried okra and hush puppies. Hush puppies are a classic southern side. Cornmeal and flour combine to create a light, fluffy batter. When fried, these delicious little batter balls become golden brown and crispy. The mild flavor can be spiced up many ways, including changing up seasoning and even adding in fresh jalapenos! Well, my hubby and I mastered fried okra and set out to master hush puppies!

Southern Hush Puppies are easy to make and pair well with southern barbeque!

Since my kiddos were going to be trying them, I decided to not use jalapenos in our first batch. The end result was fabulous and my kids, especially my daughter, went crazy over them!! I think next time, I may put half the batter aside and add in some jalapenos for my hubby and I. The added kick from the peppers would be a great addition! Of course, you can always change up the seasoning as well to vary the flavor. The recipe calls for salt, pepper, and some cayenne for flavoring, but try out your favorite Cajun or Barbeque seasoning to spice things up!

Whether you choose to add the jalapeno or not, you’ll love these! Good ol’ Southern comfort food at its finest!

I don’t see why not! I haven’t ever used an air fryer, but from what I know about them, should work great!
