Mixing Bowls
9x13 baking pan
Ingredients
¾
cup
melted butter
1-½
tablespoon
Dijon Mustard
1-½
teaspoon
Worcestershire sauce
1-½
tablespoon
poppy seeds
1
tablespoon
dried minced onion
24
Hawaiian rolls
1
lb
sliced ham
1
lb
Swiss cheese
thinly sliced
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13 baking dish.
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and minced onion.
Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise and place the bottom halves in the prepared baking dish.
Layer the ham evenly over the rolls, followed by the Swiss cheese.
Place the top halves of the rolls over the ham and cheese. Pour or brush the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops are lightly golden brown.
Remove from the oven and serve warm.
Notes
Deli ham or leftover holiday ham both work well in this recipe.
Hawaiian rolls are the traditional choice and add a slightly sweet flavor that pairs perfectly with the ham and Swiss cheese.
For added sweetness, sprinkle a little brown sugar over the ham before baking.
If the tops begin browning too quickly, loosely cover the pan with aluminum foil.
Funeral sandwiches can be assembled up to 1 day ahead and refrigerated before baking.
Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
