Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes are made with homemade sloppy joe filling, buttery garlic bread, and melted cheddar cheese for an easy 30-minute family dinner.
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until no longer pink and crumbly. Drain any excess grease and return the beef to the skillet.
Add the diced onion and bell pepper. Continue cooking until the vegetables are tender and the onion is translucent.
Stir in the sugar, ground cloves, mustard, vinegar, salt, and ketchup. Simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sloppy joe filling has thickened.
Cut the garlic bread in half horizontally and place both halves on the prepared baking sheet. Spread the sloppy joe filling evenly over each half, then sprinkle with the shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the garlic bread is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
Texas Toast garlic bread can be used instead of a garlic bread loaf for easy individual servings.
Simmer the sloppy joe filling until thickened to help prevent the garlic bread from becoming soggy.
Freshly shredded cheddar cheese melts more smoothly than pre-shredded cheese.
Leftover sloppy joe filling can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
