Last week at the grocery store, chicken was on sale! I was able to pick up a 5 lb chicken for only $3!! Since we are in the middle of a move, I wasn’t able to stock up the freezer on it, but I definitely grabbed one for dinner. I decided to put one in the slow cooker because not only is it sooooooo much easier, but it also causes the chicken to literally fall right off the bone! I served it with chicken gravy, but you could use the cooked chicken in any recipe desired. Use the leftover chicken bones and make homemade broth too!! That way, you literally are using up the entire chicken!
My kids went crazy over this dinner and asked me to to make it again the next night. Since I only grabbed one chicken, I told them it would have to wait a bit, but once our move is over and behind us, I most definitely will be making this again!!
- 1 whole chicken
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp sage
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- Aluminum foil
- Loosely wad up 8-10 balls of aluminum foil.
- Place them on the bottom of the slow cooker. Spray cooking spray on sides of slow cooker.
- Remove any giblets from chicken and rinse chicken inside/outside with cool water.
- Pat try with paper towels and rub olive oil on entire chicken.
- In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, salt, pepper, sage, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
- Rub the spice mixture on entire chicken, coating evenly.
- Place seasoned chicken, breast side up, into slow cooker on top of tin foil.
- Place lid on slow cooker and allow to cook on low for about 8 hours.
- Once cooked, remove chicken carefully from slow cooker as chicken will be quite tender!
