The Easiest Beef and Broccoli Sheet Pan Recipe

One of my favorite takeout recipes when ordering Chinese food is beef and broccoli. The sauce, the crisp broccoli, and melt in your mouth beef is my absolute obsession. With this simple copycat recipe, I now have the convenience of making it at home anytime that craving hits. Simply place the marinated steak pieces on a baking sheet with the broccoli and you’re oven ready. No need to dirty a skillet or wok, and clean up is a breeze!

Sheet Pan Beef and Broccoli Easy Ingredients Notes

See printable recipe card at the bottom of this post for exact ingredient amounts and step by step directions.

    • Steak– you’ll need one pound lean steak. Flank steak, sirloin steak, skirt steak, or petite tender work great for this recipe. Cut the meat into 1 inch strips.
    • Broccoli Florets– fresh is best as frozen can get a bit mushy. If you want to change it up, you can use mushrooms, bell peppers, carrots, snow peas, snap peas, etc.

    Marinade

    • Oyster Sauce– this is a sweet and salty condiment made primarily from oyster juices, salt, and sugar. It has a savory, tangy flavor. It’s commonly used in Asian cuisines, including Chinese and Thai dishes, for stir-fries, meat marinades, and dipping sauces.
    • Soy Sauce– any type works. I buy low sodium soy sauce as the regular version can have a high salt count.
    • Sesame Oil– you can find this by the other oils at the grocery store.
    • Brown Sugar– this adds a bit of sweetness to the sauce. I use light brown sugar.
    • Garlic– fresh minced cloves garlic is best, however, jarred works great too.
    • Red Pepper Flakes– this adds just the right amount of heat. Add more if you want to kick up the heat.
    • Toasted Sesame Seeds– optional, but adds a slight crunch and makes a great garnish.
    • Green Onions– chopped, makes a tasty garnish before serving.
all the ingredients needed to make beef and broccoli in the oven.

How to make Chinese Sheet Pan Beef and Broccoli

    1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together all of the marinade ingredients until combined.
    2. Add the sliced steak to the marinade mixture and toss until fully coated. Cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours.
    3. Preheat oven to 435°F. Line a 9×13" or larger baking sheet with parchment paper.
    4. Using tongs, transfer the steak to the baking sheet.
    5. Add the broccoli to the marinade and toss until well coated. Transfer the broccoli to the baking sheet and spread the steak and broccoli in a single layer.
    6. Spoon any remaining marinade over the entire pan.
    7. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the steak is cooked through.
    8. Switch the oven to the broiler and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Watch to ensure it does not burn.
    9. Remove from the oven. Serve over instant pot jasmine rice, and garnish with sesame seeds and ginger, if desired. Pour any remaining juices over the plated steak and broccoli. Enjoy!

Tips for Easy Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry

    • To keep the beef tender, be sure to slice against the grain of the meat. If you cut against the grain. it tends to be hard to chew and leather like.
    • If you want to add more vegetables, feel free to! You can add cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, mushroom, and bell peppers.
    • In order for the beef to cook evenly, and prevent it from steaming, spread the beef pieces out on the pan as much as you can.
    • Don’t skip the broil part as this final blast of high heat thickens the sauce and browns the beef and broccoli stir-fry.
    • To thicken the marinade a bit, you can use cornstarch or arrowroot powder (to keep it gluten-free), about 2 tsp.
    • Keep an eye on steak as you don’t want to overcook it. Every oven cooks differently and timing depends on the thickness of steak.
    • Serve over cauliflower rice to keep this low carb!
