Ingredients needed to make PF Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Below is a brief summary of each ingredient needed, as well as some substitution options. To see printable recipe card with exact amounts, scroll below.
- Olive Oil– you can also use avocado oil if preferred.
- Ground Chicken– this is a great budget friendly meat, however, if you prefer, you can also use ground turkey, ground pork, or ground beef.
- Garlic– fresh minced garlic is best, but jarred or powdered can be substituted.
- Onion– I love using a white onion, however, you can also use yellow or sweet onions.
- Hoisin Sauce– any brand works, I tend to buy store brand since its a bit cheaper. This sauce adds a sweet, tangy, and savory addition to the chicken filling.
- Soy Sauce– try to use low sodium if you can to cut down on the salt.
- Rice Wine Vinegar– rice vinegar and rice wine vinegar are the same, feel free to use whichever you have on hand.
- Ginger– this adds tons to the flavor, freshly grated is preferred, but if you can’t find it, 1 teaspoon ground ginger works too.
- Sriracha Sauce– optional, but this gives the chicken a bit of a spicy kick. Chili garlic paste or chili garlic sauce works too for some heat.
- Water Chestnuts– you’ll want to use whole water chestnuts that have been drained and diced. This adds a slight crunch once combined.
- Green Onions– chopped, this is optional, but adds a great amount to the flavor.
- Salt/ Ground Black Pepper– season to taste. I love using freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavor of the chicken as it cooks.
- Lettuce– butter lettuce is my go to as it holds up really nice and I like the texture/flavor, however, iceberg lettuce, Boston leaf lettuce, or Romaine lettuce are great options too.

Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Add some additional crunch by garnishing with peanuts or crispy rice noodles just before serving.
- This recipe makes the best meal prep. You can prepare up to 4 days in advance and simply reheat in the microwave when ready to assemble in the lettuce pieces.
- Feel free to add in some mushrooms to add additional veggies.
- If you can’t find ground chicken and don’t want to use turkey or beef, finely diced chicken breasts or thighs work great too. These substitutions are just as delicious.
- Be careful not to add too much filling to each lettuce wrap as you don’t want them to fall apart.

Nancy
Made these lettuce wraps tonight for our dinner. The only change I made was to use much less sriracha sauce than recommended and I used ground white turkey vs. chicken. While this dish doesn’t taste much like P F Chang’s version, it was really tasty. Next time I might add some chopped peanuts to the mix. Will be making these wraps again.
Kristin
Glad to hear you enjoyed them and great idea on using turkey!!
