Fridays are always date nights in my house. Last Friday, my husband and I were debating where to go for our customary date, and we both had the same thought…..October is World Pasta Month….we need pasta! Neither my husband nor I had ever ventured to Buca di Beppo, so what better place to check out than this eclectic restaurant a few minutes from our house.
We loaded up and headed to up the road to enjoy a huge helping of our custom created pasta. Upon arrival, the place seemed nice enough. Then the full Buca di Beppo dining experience hit us as soon as we walked through the door. Walking through the restaurant, it was clear this place was like every old, quaint Italian restaurant we had ever visited all rolled up into one! A tour through the kitchen and a glance at the prime kitchen table led us to our table, nestled somewhere past the “Pope” table and just past the wine room.
First impressions….very interesting décor which made for a very relaxing dining experience. Our waiter came, and it was clear he was knowledgeable and passionate about his job, and pasta! He brought us our bread….a crispy, warm French bread complete with oil and vinegar for dipping. The bread was great….I’m a sucker for bread, and this really hit the spot. We started to look at the menu, and we both were drawn to the Create Your Own Pasta Bowl menu.
Here’s a little back story before I get to the main point. Did you know Americans consume 6 BILLION pounds of pasta each year? I think I maybe consume ½ of that, but seriously…that’s a lot of pasta! In fact, the US consumes 24% of all pasta consumed in the world. I can’t even imagine…that’s a lot of pasta!
Anyway, back to the experience. After wolfing down our bread, and the fried mozzarella (highly recommended!!), we turned to the main dish. Let me get you hungry describing the Create Your Own Pasta Bowl menu. It starts with your choice of pasta (of course)….spaghetti, linguine, penne, rigatoni or cavatappi. We went with Penne. Next, pick your sauce: marinara, Alfredo, garlic olive oil, rosa, pesto, or meat sauce. Alfredo is one of my all-time favorites and my husband’s as well, so we went with Alfredo. Next were veggies, and we had a choice of: diced roma tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, artichokes, sautéed mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, green peas or sliced red onions. We chose roasted red peppers, spinach and red onions. You have a choice of meat: chicken, prosciutto, meatballs, spicy sausage, or mild sausage. We chose chicken. Finally, you can choose crushed red pepper and/or poached garlic….we chose both! Below, you’ll see the result….just outstanding! The portions were HUGE! Enough to feed at least 2, they say up to 4. Either way, it’s a ton of food!
After struggling to eat ¼ of the bowl, we moved to dessert. We went with an Italian favorite, tiramisu. Probably one of the best tiramisu dishes we have had, this one again feeds 4. It was great!
Here’s the best part. Buca di Beppo is running a contest called #PastaSelfie. Just take a picture of yourself (selfie style) while eating at Buca di Beppo. Share that selfie on Instagram using #PastaSelfie #sweepstakes and make sure you tag @bucadibeppo. You will be entered into a contest to win a $100 gift card to Buca di Beppo! What more could you ask for? If that doesn’t pique your interests, make sure you comment on this post with your favorite pasta dish or recipe, and you’ll be entered to win a gift card through my blog as well, courtesy of Buca di Beppo.
I hope you take the time to check out this great restaurant next time you are in the area, you won’t be disappointed! And don’t forget to celebrate World Pasta Month the whole month of October! Also, Buca di Beppo is open 365 days a year….this make them a great option for family dinners for the holidays, or use them for their great event catering any day of the year as well!
