Baked Ziti

February 21, 2013 by Kristin Leave a Comment

As I have mentioned before, my family loves pasta!! Every time I make a new pasta dish, chances are, the family will love it. They all enjoyed this one, and even happily ate leftovers the next night. It reminded me of a lasagna. It made tons, so it would be perfect to make for a large group, leftovers, meals for friends, etc. We all thought it was just as yummy reheated, so you could even freeze the leftovers for another night and pop it in the microwave/oven to reheat!

Ingredients:

1 box (1 lb) dry ziti pasta
1 onion, chopped
1 lb Italian sausage
2 tsp minced garlic
2 tsp Italian seasoning
2 jars (26 oz) spaghetti sauce
8 slices Provolone cheese
1 1/2 cups sour cream
8 oz mozzarella cheese
Parmesan cheese, for topping

Directions:

In a large pot, cook ziti until al dente. Drain and set aside. In a large skillet, cook sausage and onion together.  Add in garlic and Italian seasoning. Add in spaghetti sauce. Allow to simmer for about 10 minutes. In a 9×13 baking pan, lightly grease the bottom. Place 1/2 pasta on bottom, add 1/2 sauce on top, next layer provolone cheese on top of sauce. Spread sour cream on top of provolone cheese. Add remaining ziti to pan and top with remaining sauce. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top and Parmesan cheese (if desired). Place in preheated oven (350) for 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted. *I covered the pan in ton foil for 20 minutes in oven, removing foil for last 10 minutes.
