Tortellini w/ Garlic Butter Sage Sauce

This week, my hubby was travelling for business. He was only gone two nights, but typically when he is gone, I break out the mac and cheese, hot dogs, pizza, etc. Isn’t that what us moms do?? Well, I decided to break the habit this time and actually cook dinner. My kids LOVE tortellini, so I knew it would be a hit. Sure enough, my oldest said “mom, you need to make this again every night” haha! It was on the table in about 10 minutes, so it was right in line with my “easy meals when hubby is gone” rule, 🙂


5 tbsp butter
6 garlic cloves, smashed
1/2 tsp ground sage
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground pepper
1 lb frozen/fresh tortellini (any flavor works)
2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Parmesan cheese


In a medium pan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally and mashing garlic with spoon. Cook for about 7-8 minutes. Stir in the sage, salt, and pepper. Meanwhile, in a large pot of boiling water, cook the tortellini according to package directions. Drain pasta and return to pot. Stir in the butter mixture making sure tortellini is evenly coated. Sprinkle parsley, if using, as well as some shredded Parmesan cheese and serve!
