Why you’ll love these Patriotic Strawberries
- Patriotic- this is the perfect dessert for any patriotic holiday. Fourth of July parties, Labor Day, Flag Day and Memorial Day.
- Simple- only 3 ingredients needed! Yep, that’s it! 3!
- Great pop of color- perfect way to add a festive touch to any meal or spread!
- Prep ahead- these can easily be made a bit ahead of time
Ingredients Needed for Red, White, and Blue Strawberries
- Strawberries — Make sure your fresh strawberries are washed and dried. You will want them to remain whole strawberries. Don’t cut them!
- White Chocolate — You can use white candy melts or white chocolate chips for your melted chocolate but there are definitely various options for getting your melted chocolate dip.
- Blue Sugar, edible glitter, or sprinkles — Feel free to use red, white, or blue sprinkles. Sometimes around the holidays, the average grocery store chain will carry specialized, premixed sprinkle sets just like this! But if you can’t find them, that’s okay. You can make your own! Think white chocolate chips, sprinkles and more. This is a chance for you to get creative.
Equipment and Kitchen Tools Needed
- colander- to rinse the strawberries
- small bowl- to melt the chocolate
- paper towels- to dry the strawberries
- wax paper or parchment paper- to put the dipped berries on
Step by Step Instructions for 4th of July Strawberries
Are you ready for some patriotic fun?! Here’s how to make these easy red, white, and blue strawberries:
- Place blue sugar in a small bowl.
- In a separate, microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate in the microwave on 50% power for two minutes.
- Stir until the bowl is no longer hot.
- Dip the lower two-thirds of the strawberries in the melted white chocolate. Let excess drip into the bowl for a moment.
- Then, dip the lower third of the strawberries in the blue sugar or sprinkles. You can also choose to spoon it onto the strawberry.
- Then place on wax paper or parchment paper until completely cool.
- Serve and enjoy!
What Chocolate to Use
I recommend using either white chocolate almond bark or white chocolate candy melts. These melt smoothly, easily, and adhere to the berries well. White chocolate chips are a bit harder to melt, however, if you want to add in that flavoring, combine them with the almond bark to incorporate the flavor.
Decorating Ideas
These white chocolate dipped strawberries can be decorated in lots of ways – not just with the blue sugar. Easily adapt these to fit any holiday or celebration by changing the color of the sugar or switching up the toppings. Here are some ideas:
- Sprinkles
- Nuts
- Crushed Candy Bars
- Coconut
- Cookie Crumbles (such as Oreo’s)
- Chocolate Chips
How to Store
Due to the moisture in the strawberries, I don’t recommend making these too early. If your party is in the afternoon or evening, feel free to make them in the morning though and store them in the fridge, uncovered. If you place a cover on them, it will trap moisture inside.
Top Tip
For best results, use fresh ripe strawberries. These are easier to bite into and provide the ultimate sweetness!
